Waymo Robotaxis Reportedly Entered Closed Freeway Construction Zones in Arizona and California

Between April 11 and May 18, 2026, 13 Waymo robotaxis reportedly entered closed or active freeway construction zones in Phoenix and the San Francisco Bay Area after failing to recognize construction-zone closure controls. The vehicles allegedly continued into work areas at freeway speeds, creating collision risks for construction workers and other road users. Waymo reportedly restricted freeway operations and later recalled 3,871 affected automated driving systems.

City of Zhuzhou in Hunan Suspended Hellobike Robotaxi Service After Vehicle Struck Two Pedestrians

A Hellobike robotaxi reportedly struck two people near a pedestrian crossing in Zhuzhou, Hunan province, on December 6, 2025. One victim was trapped beneath the vehicle until bystanders and police lifted it, and both were taken to a hospital. Authorities suspended Hellobike's local robotaxi service, while police later collected evidence from the company and commissioned technical testing of the vehicle. The service has remained suspended.

Waymo Robotaxi Reportedly Obstructed Ambulance Responding to Austin Mass Shooting

During the response to a mass shooting on West Sixth Street in Austin, Texas, a Waymo robotaxi reportedly stopped across a street while traveling to pick up a passenger, briefly blocking an ambulance. Video reportedly showed the vehicle inching forward as police arrived; an officer contacted Waymo through its speaker system, after which the vehicle moved into a parking garage. Austin-Travis County EMS said the delay was resolved without significant effects on patient care or operations.

Waymo Robotaxi Reportedly Entered Flooded San Antonio Roadway and Was Swept Into Waterway

An unoccupied Waymo robotaxi reportedly entered a flooded roadway near Salado Creek in San Antonio on April 20, 2026, and was swept into a nearby waterway. Waymo told regulators that the vehicle detected potentially untraversable floodwater but proceeded at reduced speed. No passengers were aboard and no injuries were reported. Waymo restricted operations and later recalled 3,791 fifth- and sixth-generation automated driving systems.
