Incident 1743: ChatGPT Allegedly Provided Bomb-Making Guidance to a Suspect in the Red Fort Bombing in Delhi, India

Description: A suspect in the fatal Red Fort bombing in Delhi, India, allegedly sought and received bomb-making guidance from OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot. Reporting citing India's National Investigation Agency says Jasir Bilal Wani used AI-generated responses during explosive-device experimentation for an Al-Qaeda-linked cell, including development of rocket-based devices.
Editor Notes: Explosive-device development preceded the 11/10/2025 Red Fort bombing. Chargesheet filed 05/14/2026; AI-assistance allegations reported 05/22/2026 and 09/09/2026. The incident date uses the bombing as an approximate anchor because the exact dates of the ChatGPT exchanges and experiments are unspecified. Incident ID created 10/10/2026.

Variants

A "variant" is an AI incident similar to a known case—it has the same causes, harms, and AI system. Instead of listing it separately, we group it under the first reported incident. Unlike other incidents, variants do not need to have been reported outside the AIID. Learn more from the research paper.
