Description: A proposed class action alleges that Walmart's AI voice system captured biometric voiceprints from Illinois residents who called local stores without first obtaining meaningful consent or explaining how the biometric data would be retained and deleted. Plaintiff Amber Smith said the system captured her voiceprint during two calls in December 2025 and one in July 2026.

Variants

A "variant" is an AI incident similar to a known case—it has the same causes, harms, and AI system. Instead of listing it separately, we group it under the first reported incident. Unlike other incidents, variants do not need to have been reported outside the AIID. Learn more from the research paper.
