Céline Dion Calls Out AI-Generated Music Claiming to Feature the Iconic Singer Without Her Permission
people.com · 2025

Céline Dion is addressing the use of her voice in AI-generated music.

In an Instagram post shared on Friday, March 7, the five-time Grammy winner called out music generated by artificial intelligence that allegedly uses her voice, claiming to be her, that has been distributed online.

"It has come to our attention that unsanctioned, AI-generated music purporting to contain Celine Dion’s musical performances, and name and likeness, is currently circulating online and across various Digital Service Providers," the post began.

"Please be advised that these recordings are fake and not approved, and are not songs from her official discography."

Dion's statement comes as concerns grow about AI creating music without artist's permission and profiting from it as the technology behind it advances. In April 2024, over 200 artists banded together, signing an open letter denouncing "AI-music generation technology" with the help of the Artists Rights Alliance.

"We, the undersigned members of the artist and songwriting communities, call on AI developers, technology companies, platforms and digital music services to cease the use of artificial intelligence to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists," the petition began.

"Make no mistake: we believe that, when used responsibly, AI has enormous potential to advance human creativity and in a manner that enables the development and growth of new and exciting experiences for music fans everywhere."

Adding: "Unfortunately, some platforms and developers are employing AI to sabotage creativity and undermine artists, songwriters, musicians and rightsholders."

Billie Eilish, Billy Porter, Brothers Osborne, Camila Cabello, Darius Rucker, FINNEAS, Imagine Dragons, J Balvin, Jonas Brothers, Jon Bon Jovi, Katy Perry, Metro Boomin, Miranda Lambert, Noah Kahan, Norah Jones, Pearl Jam, Sheryl Crow, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder and Zayn Malik were among the many artists joining together.

In February, dozens of artists in the UK collaborated on a silent album to protest UK copyright laws involving AI. The 12 track listings of the 47-minute album read, "The British government must not legalize music theft to benefit AI companies."

This isn't the first time Dion has been vocal about her music being used without her consent. She previously called out President Donald Trump for using her song "My Heart Will Go On" without her permission during a rally in August 2024.

"Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing 'My Heart Will Go On' at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana," the statement read."In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use," the statement added, before questioning the song choice. "…And really, THAT song?"
