Police in Athens have announced the arrest of two schoolchildren for allegedly creating and sharing AI-generated deepfake nude images of classmates.
The suspects, who are both aged 16, were arrested at their school on Wednesday after it became known that they had shared photos of their classmates online. Using artificial intelligence tools, they altered the photos of classmates so that they appeared naked or semi-naked.
The suspects had downloaded the photos from social networking platforms without the consent of the victims.
Police also confiscated the mobile phones of the two 16-year-olds for forensic digital examination.
The teenagers’ parents were also arrested and they face charges of neglecting to supervise their children.
