National Police agents have arrested a minor in Palma for his alleged involvement in the creation of artificial nude images of other schoolmates of the same age, using an artificial intelligence (AI) application that allows, from a normal photograph of other people with clothes, to generate an artificial nude with a high degree of reality.
In a press release, the Police have reported that the investigations began after the complaint of several affected people, who claimed to have been aware of the dissemination of photographs in which they appeared naked. Photographs that they acknowledged were on their social networks but in which they appeared fully clothed.
After the investigation carried out by the Provincial Brigade of the Judicial Police, specifically, the Technological Crimes (Cybercrime) and Economic Crime Group of the National Police in Palma, it was found that at least one young man, a classmate of the minors, had extracted the images from their public social networks and used them to generate artificial nudes through an AI application.
When the relatives of the affected women saw the photographs, they mentioned that, at first glance, their daughters' nudes seemed completely real and that they had to look closely to realize that it was some kind of trick or montage, which is highlighted by the high degree of realism of most of the images, in total of five underage victims.
Since they were minors and the photographs were of a sexual nature, the investigators oriented the fact towards a type of child pornography production. For this reason, and once the direct involvement of the minor in the creation of the files was confirmed, he was arrested as the alleged perpetrator, accused of a crime related to the corruption of minors. The facts have been brought to the attention of the Balearic Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.
The Police have finally recalled that, according to the Penal Code, any material that visually represents a person who appears to be a minor participating in sexually explicit conduct, real or simulated, as well as any representation of the sexual organs of a person who appears to be a minor - whether realistic images - for primarily sexual purposes, is considered child pornography, which constitutes a duly contemplated crime that, depending on the participation in its creation, downloading, possession or distribution, has a different penalty.
