The National Police have arrested a minor in Palma for creating nude images of five schoolmates using artificial intelligence (AI). The application he used allowed a normal photograph of other people with clothes to generate an artificial nude with a high degree of reality.
According to the Superior Headquarters in the Balearic Islands, the investigation began after several affected people reported that photos of them had been disseminated, which they acknowledged were posted on social networks but in which they were dressed, where they appeared naked.
The Provincial Brigade of the Judicial Police, specifically, the Technological Crimes Group (Cybercrime) and Economic Crime of the National Police in Palma carried out the relevant procedures and discovered that at least one young man, a classmate of the minors, had extracted the images from their social networks and had used them to generate artificial nudes through an AI application.
The Police have explained that the relatives of the affected women thought at first glance that the nudes were real and that they had to look closely to realise that it was some kind of montage, highlighting the high degree of realism of most of the images. In total, there were five underage victims.
Since they were minors and the photographs were of a sexual nature, the investigators oriented the fact towards a type of child pornography production. For this reason and once the direct involvement in the creation of the files was confirmed, the alleged perpetrator was arrested, accused of a crime related to the corruption of minors.
The facts have been brought to the attention of the Balearic Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.
The Police have finally recalled that, according to the Penal Code, any material that visually represents a person who appears to be a minor participating in sexually explicit conduct, real or simulated, as well as any representation of the sexual organs of a person who appears to be a minor - whether realistic images - for primarily sexual purposes, is considered child pornography, which constitutes a duly contemplated crime that, depending on the participation in its creation, downloading, possession or distribution, has a different penalty.
