The National Police have arrested a minor in Palma, the alleged author of nude images of five schoolmates created using artificial intelligence (AI) and their dissemination, reports Efe.
The investigation began after the complaint of several affected people who claimed to have been aware of the dissemination of photographs in which they appeared naked, reported this Saturday the Superior Headquarters of the Balearic Islands in a statement.
In the photos, published on their social networks, the minors were fully dressed, according to their complaint, so the detainee allegedly used an AI application to generate an artificial nude with a high degree of reality from the images.
In fact, according to the Police, the relatives of the affected women assured that, at first glance, the nudes seemed real and that they had to see the photos several times and look closely to realize that it was a montage.
Following the investigation carried out by the Technological Crimes and Economic Crime Group of the National Police in Palma, it was found that at least one young man, a schoolmate and of the same age as the minors, had extracted the images from their public social networks and had used them to generate artificial nudes through an AI application.
As these were sexual photographs of minors, the investigators oriented the case towards a type of production of child pornography and, once the direct involvement in the creation of the files was confirmed, they arrested the alleged perpetrator, accused of a crime related to the corruption of minors. The facts have been brought to the attention of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office of the Balearic Islands.
The Police have recalled that, according to the Penal Code, any material that represents a person who appears to be a minor participating in sexually explicit conduct, real or simulated, as well as any representation of their sexual organs for primarily sexual purposes, is considered child pornography.
Participation in its creation, downloading, possession or distribution carries various penalties.
