UTE warned on Thursday about the circulation of a video "with fraudulent intent" in which "there is a false invitation to invest, using misleading images of the company and a famous Uruguayan soccer player."
The public company recommended "not to enter any data."
"In light of this new method of fraud, UTE clarifies that the information circulating is of fraudulent origin and recommends its clients not to provide any personal data," it said.
The video in question is clearly manipulated, and has images of a reporter from the American media Telemundo and Luis Suárez.
"UTE has developed a project that will solve the financial problems of all Uruguayans," says the video.
It also states that, with an investment of 10,400 pesos, one can earn 175 thousand pesos a month.
Suárez's image and voice are altered to make the soccer player say that the investment is a good idea and therefore is advisable.
