Alleged Fake AI-Generated Christmas Card Featuring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Children Circulates on Social Media

Royal Fans Call Edited Image of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Kids 'Pathetic Fakery' Months After Kate Middleton's Photoshop Scandal
parade.com · 2024

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared their official holiday card earlier this month, fans were thrilled to get a glimpse of their two children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3---though the image only showed the prince and princess from behind. Now a new Christmas card featuring Archie and Lilbet's faces is going viral, but social media users were quick to point out that the photo is obviously fake.

Posted on X last week---though it's unclear if the user is the original creator---the seemingly-AI-generated black-and-white shot showed the little boy and girl standing beside each other. "Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet," the card read.

However, commenters could tell right away that the picture was a digital forgery.

"Completely fake," wrote one person.  "Pathetic fakery," a second agreed.

"AI for the win!" joked somebody else.

"Fake & they don't look like Harry or Meghan," a fourth commenter pointed out.

"AI no way I see better Photoshop from Kim Kardashian. Give me a damn break," another quipped.

While it appears that neither Harry nor Meghan had anything to do with the fake holiday card, members of the royal family have come under fire in the past for presenting digitally altered photos to the public.

In March of 2024, Kate Middleton was criticized for sharing a pic of Princess Charlotte, Prince Louie and Prince George which had clearly been photoshopped.

"Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused," the Princess of Wales said in a statement addressing the controversy.
