Associated Incidents
Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is developing rapidly, and some criminals use it to carry out illegal and criminal activities, which has brought severe challenges to network security. Recently, the public security organs have cracked down on many cases involving artificial intelligence.
In June this year, the police in Shangyu District, Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province found that some netizens had posted a video about a fire in Shangyu Industrial Park, and the number of views increased rapidly in a short period of time. In the video, a fire was raging in an industrial park in Shangyu District, and the entire park was covered with thick smoke. Explosions were heard from time to time at the scene, and the scene was thrilling.
The police checked and found that the building and forest fire scenes in the video were not real scenes of the industrial park, and they were suspected to be from other videos. After analysis, the police judged that the video was made by splicing multiple different videos on the Internet using artificial intelligence synthesis technology. After investigation, the police determined that an employee of a certain Internet technology company was suspected of committing a crime, and immediately went to the company's location to arrest three criminal suspects including Tang.
"The suspects first collected hot topics online, automatically generated scripts through generative artificial intelligence services, grabbed relevant video clips online, and then used AI software to synthesize a complete video, adding music and subtitles. In less than a minute, a fake video was 'freshly baked'." Shen Linfeng, a police officer from the Shangyu District Branch, said that in order to gain traffic and attract attention, the gang has been using artificial intelligence technology to create fake videos and spread rumors since May this year, and has released more than 3,000 unverified fake videos online.
As facial recognition technology becomes more and more popular, some criminals have begun to use technologies such as "AI face-changing" to commit crimes such as theft and fraud, which has aroused public concerns about the protection of personal information.
"My APP seems to have been hacked!" On April 13 this year, Ms. Zhu went to the local police station to report that someone had logged into a government APP and downloaded the electronic business license of Ms. Zhu's company without authorization. After receiving the alarm, the local public security organs quickly launched an investigation and soon confirmed that Zeng Moumou was a major suspect.
After investigation, the suspect Zeng used his own mobile phone number to register an account, and used Ms. Zhu's name, ID number and other information for real-name authentication, and then bound it through face recognition, and finally successfully logged into the account to commit the crime.
"Zeng used online shopping stores to attract traffic, used face photos provided by 'customers', used professional AI software to create synthetic face animations, and used face recognition verification to log in to various APPs to illegally obtain relevant information." The police officer in charge of the case introduced.
"The price of each transaction was different, but I just thought it was easier to make money this way, but I didn't expect that I had violated the law." Zeng regretted it. It is understood that Zeng used this method to create more than 1,000 dynamic faces and made a profit of more than 90,000 yuan. At present, Zeng has been taken criminal compulsory measures and the case is being handled.
A relevant person in charge of the Cyber Security Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security introduced: "The materials used by criminals to implement 'AI face-changing' are mainly photos, especially ID card photos, and combined with the name and ID card number of the person to break through the face recognition verification system. In order to prevent and combat this new type of crime, the public security organs have joined hands with scientific research units to carry out security assessments of face recognition and liveness detection technology, covering various key apps with large domestic user volumes and prominent problems and hidden dangers, timely discovering the risks and hidden dangers of face recognition verification systems, and notifying operators to upgrade security protection measures and face recognition algorithms." According to reports, the public security organs, relying on the "Net Cleaning" special operation, organized special battles, cracked down on the criminal source of leaking ID card photos and other image information, cracked many "AI face-changing" cases, arrested related criminal suspects, and effectively curbed the momentum of this type of crime.
"Illegal elements abuse artificial intelligence technology, which brings serious harm to society and violates relevant laws." The police introduced that according to legal provisions, using artificial intelligence technology to create and disseminate false information and disrupt social order may constitute the crime of fabricating and deliberately spreading false information; using artificial synthesis technology to crack other people's accounts and steal other people's personal information may constitute the crime of infringing citizens' personal information. In addition, if artificial intelligence and other technical means are used to engage in bullying, intimidation, threats and other behaviors, it may constitute the crime of provoking disturbances.
Artificial intelligence technology is simple to operate, highly customizable, and has a wide range of application scenarios, which reduces the difficulty of chain crimes. It is extremely harmful when used by hackers and other criminals. According to reports, for new applications and new formats generated by artificial intelligence technology, the public security organs adhere to the parallel of value guidance and technical "error correction", protect the healthy development of artificial intelligence technology, prevent and crack down on new cases that use artificial intelligence technology to infringe on citizens' rights and endanger public safety, maintain a clean and upright network environment, and make every effort to ensure the security of cyberspace.
The police officers in charge of the case reminded that we should be vigilant against the use of artificial intelligence technology to commit new crimes, and suggested that individuals strengthen their awareness of information protection, prevent information leakage, and do not easily provide personal biometric information such as face and fingerprints to others; manage their own "circle of friends" well, and try to avoid excessive exposure of privacy; be vigilant about advertisements, winning links, etc. sent by unknown platforms, and do not click or fill in information at will to avoid being deceived.
