Pennsylvania's Lancaster Country Day School Students Allegedly Used AI to Create Hundreds of Sexualized Deepfake Images of Girls

From November 2023 through May 2024, two Lancaster Country Day School students in Pennsylvania allegedly used AI tools to create and exchange hundreds of sexualized deepfake images depicting female classmates and other girls. Authorities later identified 60 victims, 59 of them minors. The students were adjudicated delinquent in juvenile court, and families later sued the school and unnamed AI companies over the incident.

Purported deepfake nude images of female students were circulated without consent at an educational institute in Valencia, Spain. At least 16 minors reported that original photographs had been digitally manipulated so they appeared completely naked, with some images shared via social media accounts created in victims' names. Louisiana authorities alleged that former Isidore Newman School teacher Benoit Cransac used an online AI platform to alter social media photos of girls and generate fake nude images, including collages. Throughout 2024, schools in Australia reportedly dealt with a significant rise and proliferation of nonconsensual deepfake pornography of students. Often, male students are reported to use "nudify" apps such as Undress AI with images of their classmates and teachers. Many of the sites have reportedly remained legal and allegedly accessible to minors, who in turn are purportedly using the sites to generate pornography of their peers.
